The exterior view of the front of Howell Carnegie District Library

In the interest of public health, Howell Carnegie District Library closed to the public on Friday, March 13 at 5 pm until further notice. Closing was a necessary step to preserve public health and help slow the spread of the COVID-19 virus in Michigan. While physical resources will be unavailable until we are able to re-open, take advantage of the various online resources available through the library and throughout our Livingston County community.

Feel free to send any questions to askus@howelllibrary.org — we will try our best to respond within 24 hours!

The following are a few answers to how this closure will affect currently checked out materials and receiving future resources:

  • All patron accounts and library cards that were set to expire between June 1 and October 1, 2020 have been renewed with a new expiration date of June 1, 2021.

  • Please keep any checked out materials at home until we re-open. All due dates have been extended to July 6, 2020, and no overdue fees will be charged during this unforeseen closure.

  • At this time, the 24/7 Locker Pickup service will not be available. Because of uncertainties surrounding how long the virus lives on surfaces, currently the lockers are not being utilized.

  • Holds are currently frozen. They will resume when we re-open.

  • Ensuring that patrons have access to all online resources is a priority. To prevent anyone being blocked from Overdrive because of existing overdue fees, we have waived all overdue fees accumulated between January 1, 2020 and July 6, 2020. Additionally, for the next several months we will approximately double our Overdrive spending, and temporarily increase the number of monthly Hoopla checkouts per card from 6 to 10.

  • MelCat requesting has been shut down.

  • The wifi will remain on.
