World Cultures Day

“I look forward confidently to the day … when we bring into full realization the American dream … a dream of a nation where all our gifts and resources are held not for ourselves alone, but as instruments of service for the rest of humanity; the dream of a country where every man will respect the dignity and worth of the human personality.” – Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was a pioneer and an advocate who inspired generations through his commitment to love and people. His dream of diversity and inclusion is a notion that we are still fighting for today. In the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s vision that our differences are understood, celebrated and used to improve the way we view other people, join us for World Cultures Day geared for grades 1-6. Be a World Culture Detective to find out what makes the different cultures represented right here in Howell both unique and complementary.  As a World Cultures Detective, you will follow an Investigation Plan to answer questions about the places you visit.  Bring the completed plan to the desk for a piece of candy from Sweden.

Local residents and library staff will be sharing things for you to see, taste or make.  Each table will have traditional clothing, a few examples of the native language, and a sample of food of the culture.  One of the tables will provide information about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., his dream, his favorite food, and materials you can check out.

It promises to be a fun and educational experience for everyone on Monday, January 20, 1:00-3:00 pm. No registration is required.
