Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the project?

  • Rebuilding the front steps and ramps (completed)
  • Installing a snow melt system on the steps and ramps (completed)
  • Improving the water runoff (completed)
  • Replacing the handrails, adding pickets, and including lighting to improve safety
  • Repairing the stone wall (completed)
  • Replacing the emergency exit door on the Clinton Street side of the library and eliminating the alcove for additional security (completed)
  • Adding automatic door openers to the Clinton Street doors (expected to be completed by October 24, 2025)

When will the project be completed?

The front entrance is open with temporary handrails in place. The temporary handrails, although not aesthetically pleasing, do provide necessary safety for our patrons. Because of challenges in identifying suppliers of the handrails and pickets that honor the historic nature of this building, the process is taking longer than initially anticipated. We are hoping the entire project will be completed by Spring 2026. In the meantime, our front entrance is open for business!

How do I get into the building?

The front entrance has reopened, and the Clinton Street doors remain open.
