Teen Cooking Class: Patriotic Berry Cheesecake (grades 6-12)

July 01, 2026 05:30PM-06:30PM @ Meabon Room - Howell Carnegie Library (20 seats)

Chef Bernard Meinke will lead students in making their own frozen berry cheesecake to bring home. This perfect patriotic dessert features a buttery graham cracker crust, a rich cream cheese filling, and mixed red, white, and blue berries—topped off with a graham cracker crumble. This tasty treat will need to be refrigerated or frozen after making, so be sure to bring a cooler bag and ice pack or place it in a refrigerator/freezer immediately after leaving the library. This free class is open to students in grades 6-12.

Registration is required and begins at 9am on Wednesday, June 17. Please register each teen who will be attending.

Teen Volunteer Session (ages 14-17 with work permit)

Teens (ages 14-17), with a work permit*, can earn volunteer hours and help support the library by assisting Youth Department staff with specific tasks such as using a die-cut machine to cut out shapes, cleaning toys, finding books, and more. 

Please register to volunteer for this session ONLY if you are 14-17 years old and have a work permit to volunteer at the library. 

Registration is required and begins at 9am on Monday, June 22.

Sketch Live Animals (grades 6-12)

Learn how to express the wonders of science through images and drawing. Meet two live animals up close and learn simple sketching techniques to create your unique work of art.

Teen Volunteer Session: Help with Family STEAM Night (ages 14-17 with work permit) (Outdoors)

Teens (ages 14-17), with a work permit*, can earn volunteer hours and support the library by signing up for our Teen Volunteer Sessions. Each individual shift requires registration. During this session, volunteers will help us run the outdoor Family STEAM Night.

Please register to volunteer for this session ONLY if you enjoy working with younger children, are 14-17 years old, and have a work permit to volunteer at the library. 

Registration is required and begins at 9am on Thursday, June 25. When you arrive for your volunteer shift, please check in at the Youth Services desk on the lower level of the library.

Puppetry Workshop (grades 2-6)

Teen Craft: Washi Tape Painting (grades 6-12) (Outdoors)

Join us outside at the library for a colorful, creative afternoon just for teens! In this art program, you will use washi tape to design a unique painting on canvas. Layer patterns, create bold shapes, and experiment with color to make a piece that’s totally your own.

Registration is required and begins at 9am on Tuesday, June 30. For students entering grades 6-12 in the fall.
