Book Club in a Bag
One stop shopping for your book discussion group! Check out a new Book Club in a Bag. In it you’ll find six copies of a single title, an author bio, book reviews, reader’s guide, and discussion questions.

Guidelines

A Book Club in a Bag may be checked out for 4 weeks. No more than one bag at a time may be checked out to an individual. Bags can be renewed once if there are no holds.

The person who checks out a Book Club in a Bag is financially responsible for returning the entire kit.

Please check the content of the bag before borrowing and before returning the bag to the library.

Please return the bag to the Circulation Desk. DO NOT RETURN THROUGH THE BOOK DROP. Doing so may result in loss of Book Club in a Bag checkout privileges.

Replacement cost of an entire Book Club in a Bag varies. Replacement cost of individual parts of the bag will depend on the cost of each particular item.

Hot Spots
Take the internet with you wherever you go with one of our WiFi Hot Spots! We have two kinds of Hot Spots in our collection: T-Mobile and AT&T.

3 Week Loan for Howell Library District residents that are 18 years or older, 1 per card

Guidelines

To check out a Hot Spot, patron must:

Be a HOWELL LIBRARY DISTRICT RESIDENT

Be 18 years or older

Present their Howell Carnegie District Library card or Government-Issued ID

Have no late hotspot fees, no billed items, or blocks on library card account. No exceptions

Hot Spots can be checked out at the Information Desk or Curbside Pickup for 3 weeks with no renewals and no grace period

A replacement fee will be immediately added to patron’s account once checkout period has expired. Once the item is returned, only a $10 late fee will be due.

Holds can be placed on Hot Spots.

Only ONE Hot Spot can be checked out per library card account

Patron is responsible for the Hot Spot and accessories checked out on their library card. In case of loss or damage, fees will be assessed on an individual basis depending upon cost of repair or replacement

Do not use Hot Spot around food and drink.

Immediately report loss or damage to the Information Desk.

Hot Spot, accessories, and case must be returned to the Information Desk or Curbside Pickup. Contents of case include Hot Spot, power adaptor, and cord.

DO NOT RETURN THROUGH THE BOOK DROP. Doing so may result in loss of Hot Spot checkout privileges.

HCDL Hot Spot users, including minors, are forbidden from using this equipment for any illegal activity.

HCDL Hot Spot users agree to hold HCDL harmless for any damage related to using this equipment.

Launchpads
Launchpads are tablets preloaded with brain games for adults that help train your mind by challenging memory, reaction time, problem-solving and observation skills, attention span, and more!

3 Week Loan for All Patrons with No Checkout Limit

Guidelines

To check out a Launchpad, patron must:

Present Howell Carnegie District Library card.

Have no billed items, or blocks on library card account. No exceptions.

Launchpads can be checked out for 3 weeks with no renewals and no grace period. A replacement fee will be immediately added to patron’s account once checkout period has expired.

Patron is responsible for the Launchpad and accessories checked out on their library card. In case of loss or damage, fees will be assessed on an individual basis depending upon cost of repair or replacement.

Do not use Launchpad around food and drink.

Launchpad, accessories, and case must be returned to the Circulation or Curbside Desk. Each Launchpad orange case contains a preloaded tablet, a charging cord, and a power adapter.

DO NOT RETURN THROUGH THE BOOK DROP. Doing so may result in loss of Launchpad checkout privileges.
Library of Things
Not your traditional library materials, the Library of Things (LOT) allows you to borrow practical, fun, and useful items to learn new skills, explore areas of interest, or help with everyday tasks.

Our general LOT collection is full of different, unique items to borrow.

LOT items circulate for either 1 week or 3 weeks.

The Library is not responsible for any costs incurred or damage to personal items used with a LOT item.

Borrowers are responsible for the safe-keeping and return of a LOT item to the library clean and in good working order.

The borrower is responsible for damaged and/or missing pieces.
Literacy Kits
Literacy Kits focus on developing different areas of pre-reading & reading skills as well as reading comprehension.

Each kit includes tools or games to develop sight word recognition, strategies for reading, letter recognition, fine motor skills, phonics & decoding, and more.

Memory Kits
Our Memory Kits contain books and activities to help initiate conversations with people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. The objects in these kits are meant to help spark memories and provide an enjoyable experience for both caretaker and the person they are caring for.

Seed Library
Our Seed Library is a collection of packaged seeds that are free to take home and plant in your own garden. The collection includes vegetables, greens, flowers, and herbs, with 25 different seed varieties. (Spring through Fall)
