Simply defined, a gift to an endowment fund is a way for a person to make a donation that has lasting impact.  An endowment fund is designed to be a permanent source of support, with a portion of the fund available for use by the library each year and the rest permanently invested.   This assures that over time these funds will continue to grow – and make a bigger impact for the library.

Previously, endowments were defined as only using income, but that could preclude use of funds when investment markets are down.  Our practice has always been to make a portion of the fund available each year.
