Summer Reading Challenge Bingo For all Ages. June 1 - July 31

Our 2023 Summer Reading Challenge is easy and fun for all ages 0-101! Pick up the Bingo card for your age group in the library or participate online. Read, explore the library, and be engaged this summer as you complete activity squares on your card to get BINGOs and chances to win prizes.

Limit one Bingo card, whether online or paper, per participant.

  • Register online  starting Thursday, June 1 for your age group (Pre-Reader, Kid, Teen, or Adult) and then stop into the library to retrieve your participation prize.

  • Complete the activities in the boxes to fill a BINGO (row, column, or diagonal line). Each online bingo card provides 10 opportunities for a BINGO. For each completed BINGO, you will be entered to win a prize for your age group.

  • Mark all completed boxes to complete your online Bingo card by 11:59pm on Friday, June 30, 2023 to be entered into an Early Bird Prize Drawing for your age group. The final deadline to complete your online Bingo card is Monday, July 31, 2023 by 11:59pm.

  • Register in person at the library starting Thursday, June 1 to pick up a Bingo card for your age group (Pre-Reader, Kid, Teen, or Adult) and retrieve your participation prize.

  • Complete the activities in the boxes to fill a BINGO (row, column, or diagonal line). Each card provides 10 opportunities for a BINGO. For each completed BINGO, you will be entered to win a prize for your age group.

  • Turn in the completed card to the library by 7:00pm Monday, July 31, 2023. (Early Bird drawing deadline for paper is 4:00pm on Friday, June 30, 2023)

Prizes

Each participant will receive a participation prize (while supplies last) as well as entry in the Final Prize Drawing for their age group. Once registered to participate online or in person, you are eligible to pick up your participation prize at the library.

Each participant is also entered into a Grand Prize Drawing. Final Prize Winners are eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing.

EARLY BIRD PRIZES

Early Bird Prize Winners cannot win a Final Prize Drawing for their age group, but are eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing.

Early Bird & Final Prize winners (one winner per age group) each win a $50 gift card to their choice of The Crunchy Pickle, Dairy Queen, Historic Howell Theater, or Tanger Outlet Center. One Grand Prize winner will win a $100 Visa gift card.

All prizes are to be picked up from the Howell Library.

Activity Resources

The following are some resources you can use to help complete your Bingo card:

  • Overdrive/Libby has a collection of ebooks, audiobooks, and popular magazines that can be downloaded to your device!

  • Hoopla is available to Howell Library District residents and has a collection of ebooks, audiobooks, comics, music, movies, and TV shows.

  • Use Kanopy to find movies, documentaries, foreign films, classic cinema, independent films and educational videos that inspire, enrich and entertain. Kanopy is available to Howell Library District residents only.

  • Novelist Plus can be used to find read-alikes for books and authors you loved and to explore unfamiliar genres. Give it a try to find a new favorite book!

  • Every year, the Library of Michigan selects up to twenty of the most notable books written by a Michigan resident or about Michigan or the Great Lakes. Browse the 2023 Michigan Notable Books or explore books recognized in previous years!

  • Enjoy watching a teen movie based on a book and write a review about your movie choice.

  • Read a “How to Draw” book and draw something from it.

  • The Michigan Activity Pass (MAP) program is a statewide collaborative effort between Michigan’s public libraries and participating destinations including museums, state parks, and other arts and cultural organizations. There are over 450 MAP destinations in 2023!

  • Use the classic catalog’s advanced search function to find books published the year you were born! In the first box next to “Any Field,” type an asterisk (*). Then, under the “Within” section, type your birth year in both boxes and press submit. Now you should have a list of items published the year you were born!

  • Judge a book by it’s one-word title using this Digital Discovery recommendation list!

  • Use Michigan produce to create your own recipe or follow one from a library cookbook! The Seed Library can be used to grow your own Michigan produce, if desired.

  • Submit your favorite book and why you like it in person or online using this Google Form! Entries may be posted on a Reader’s Choice bulletin display during the month of July. Visit the library to view the favorite books of others in the community!
