When anyone violates the Library Rules of Conduct, their use of the library building, grounds and services may be rescinded. When use of library building, grounds and services are rescinded for violating the Library Rules of Conduct, the following progressive steps are followed:
First offense – library use (building and grounds) rescinded for a minimum of one month.
Second offense – if it occurs within one year of the first offense – library use (building and grounds) rescinded for a minimum of three months.
Third offense – if it occurs within one year of the second offense – library use (building, grounds and services) rescinded for a minimum of one year.
The library director or designated staff members have the authority to rescind library use for a longer period, if in their opinion the violation of the rules of conduct justifies a longer period of rescission.
A “Report Challenging Patron Incident” web form will be completed by library staff after each offense.
After the third offense a note will be added to a Library User’s library record reflecting the rescinding of all library use, including borrowing privileges.
After any offense, the involved parties can petition the Library Director regarding an early reinstatement of library use by completing a “Petition to Reinstate Library Use” web form. Completed “Petition to Reinstate Library Use” forms will be reviewed by the Library Director, whose decision will be given to the parties who completed the “Petition to Reinstate Library Use” form. If the involved parties are not satisfied with the decision of the Library Director, they can request to be put on the agenda for a review by the Library Board of Trustees at a regularly scheduled Board meeting.
